I've been eating at R&R for a while and just haven't gotten around to posing about it. They have wonderful friend shrimp and other fried items, Oysters in many ways. But the main dish is the Crawfish! They are excellent! They sell by the pound, both cooked and live. Try the lunchtime special of a half poboy and cup of gumbo.

We had a group of family there tonight and it was great. The food and service were great. I had the Blackened Mahi and my girlfriend had the fried shrimp. The Mahi was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Her shrimp had a great tasting seasoning and batter and had zero grease. We will be coming back again and again.

The boiled crawfish was OK. However, boiled crawfish isn't on their menu so.... Ask your server! That being said, overall we weren't impressed. All of their food is overpriced, fried, and/or buttered - even their steamed seafood is buttered. The sides didn't seem like they were high quality (aka the red beans and rice and their salads). We were originally going to order the crawfish entree, but the server told us that the crawfish tails aren't local and fresh. They're from Tahiti (?). Also, the oysters weren't that good either. Overall, it seemed like this place is a tourist trap. The service was hit or miss. Our server was nice, but the host at the front door seemed annoyed that she needed to seat us! I won't go back. After spending $40+, we left hungry.

Pure Amazingness!!!! Need I say more? Very fresh, it's been an addiction for quite sometime. Best food around..

I ordered the spicy steamed shrimp with potatoes and sausage- the food was actually yummy; however, the service was pretty bad. The waiter was rude and sarcastic to some of the people that came along with us- and it was uncalled for. He just seemed put off by having to be at work. If asked for something- he questioned why what he brought wasn't enough- who does that? Food + service = complete dining experience - having said that- I think while visiting Alabama, I will forgo this restaurant and find a restaurant with good food AND good service.

Great family atmosphere and the food was great! Pretty pricy but that's to be expected for seafood in this area.

Worst service I've had in years. The food was only adequate, absolutely no atmosphere and the waitress was truly terrible. Took her for ever to finally get to our table. She had numerous other customers complaining. Bar drinks were watered down. Brought out the appetizers with entree. Oyster tray had a hole in it, so it leaked all over the table. Then she couldn't get any small plates to serve the oysters on. She blamed everything on the kitchen staff. Forgot to bring out the side orders to our entrees. She kept apologizing every visit to table, but nothing ever got better. No manager bothered to stop in and ask how was the dinner. I wanted to throw a $20 on the table early on and just leave before dinner came out. Go some place downtown and avoid this train wreck. I'd never return and certainly will not recommend to others.

I got the fried flounder with a side of steamed zucchini and squash & hush puppies to finish it off. My meal was delicioso! My first experience here last year wasn't that impressive, but this time blew me away. Everything was perfect. I'll be back for sure! The service was also good.

This place is AWESOME!!! Come hungry. You're probably used to a seafood platter being 6 shrimp etc on top of a mountain of French fries. Not here. So much food! All our food is delicious, and you can tell everything is freshly made/battered. Service is super friendly and attentive. Felix's is nice but we chose this place in our trip this year and we'll do so again. A lot more peaceful than across the street. Thanks, R&R, for a GREAT family meal!

Smoked tuna dip was the bomb. Seafood was fresh and wait staff was great. She went out of her way to show me the label where they get the smoked tuna dip. Will come back next time visiting the coast.

A wise man once told me, "You can fry a leather boot and it would taste good.", and I think he's right. What I'm saying is fried food is fried food and plenty of the causeway restaurants can deliver on that. If you want that and something extra go to R&R for some crawfish. This place is a staple for my Mobile dining circuit and hasn't burned anything but my eye when I tried to put in my contacts. Next time you're ready to pinch some tails and suck a few heads check this out!

Kids plates are good portion. Service was quick. Other than that we won't be back. Overpriced for the quality. Seafood didn't seem fresh. Worst crab cakes ever. Wish we would have waited the hour for blue gill or Felix's.

Oysters weren't as good as I was expecting and neither was the appetizer. Do yourself a favor and go to Felix's across the street.

Best place on the causeway to eat fresh seafood! I have tried many different things and have yet to be disappointed.

Can't go wrong with R&R! Excellent crawfish! Always great food and great service! Really good atmosphere! Bar area is small, but that's about the only bad thing I can say.

This is our go to place during Crawfish season. They have the best crawfish in the area. Sometimes - the service is slow and a couple of times they have not brought us the right items and sometimes we go and the service is stellar...the food brings us back though, the prices are awesome and the service is fairly good. Other items we really like: the sausage, friend green beans with the special ranch sauce mmmm and their oysters are awesome too!

We love their crawfish, snow crabs, royal reds and blue crabs ( when they have them) . The spicy butter sauce is amazing! We have been going there for 5 years and they never disappoint. My review is just after I left the restaurant, so yes!! My stomach is dictating this review :)

My family & I had an amazing experience! Michael was our server & he was prompt, respectful & well informed. I live in South Florida now & find it hard to find good seafood. R&R was a taste of back home goodness for me :) when you grow up on the gulf coast, you can't help but to become a seafood snob! When I went, I ordered the crawfish, raw oysters & side salad. Their side salad alone is one like no other. My daughter ordered the Oysters' Rockefeller & my dad had the seafood trio. Everyone loved their food & we decided it would be our new go to place when I visit! Thank you, R&R for a great experience! P.S. The place is very clean, too!

The fried oysters were cold and had too much breading. The blackened catfish was the best item that we ordered. It was cooked properly and came out hot. The service was pretty good. The menu states that they have a seasonal beer but they do not. Just Miller Lite and Yuengling. Overall it was just okay and I wouldn't return.

They really need to change the name of this place to Joe's Crabshack. This is a poor example of fresh gulf seafood if I've ever tasted it. Maybe the fried stuff was good, but everything looked like it came from Cysco. Who even serves frozen boiled crawfish? I'm glad the waitress warned me before I ordered. An hour wait at Felix's prompted me to check this place out. Now I know why there wasn't a wait here. Never again.

Well, it is that time of year to polish off as many oysters as possible in preparation for (free) crawfish season. I will hit other places in my reviews as time permits, but elected to go to R&R this week because their food is usually very fresh and we wanted to start off our "perfect bite" quest with a good selection of different baked/broiled/grilled delights. The oysters were good, really good. They were fresh, plump, briny and served nice and hot. However (comma, space) we had to request hot sauce and lemon, which is a major taboo in my book. But we did get them, and with the raws the horseradish was plentiful. The food quality and quantity was excellent, especially on a cold Coastal evening. But (comma, space) why are the people here SO mean? I just do not get it. And why do I keep going back? One day I will take an oyster-shucking class and just do my own. Until then I do not need to be treated like a trespasser or an inconvenience. There is NO, NO WAY the entire staff can be so rude unless they are trained to be as they are. For those of you that know me there is no doubt that I approach every meal as a holiday, and every bite a treat. So there is certainly no negative vibes I am sending out. Please help me just back away from this place (except for the ground-level raw seafood to go). There are just too many other places out there where the people are at least pleasant - which is a big part of the experience for me. But, shoot, they had some excellent bivalves....

The seafood at R & R's is hands down the best I've had in the area. You have to order the steamed royal reds with melted butter for dipping, to die for ! I usually order a blackened fish with a side of red beans and rice and hush puppies, my little piece of heaven on a plate. And it wouldn't be a visit to R & R's if we didn't get an order of crawfish for the table to start off....insanely delish!

I like this place. Great people and great food. I didn't like the way they do the potatoes for the crawfish boil though. It was different. I liked the smell of the pure pine wood in the bathroom. No paint. Just raw wood. Reminded me of "up da country".

We have eaten here several times and the food is always good. This time my wife and I ordered the Royal Reds and they were outstanding!! Good sized and seasoned very well. My daughter and some friends ordered crawfish. The first batch had ridiculously undersized crawfish that I would have been embarrassed to put on someones plate. The second batch however came out just right and where delicious. I am going to have to agree with other posters about this place, food is great but the experience is lacking because of the wait staff. They all have a very uncaring nonchalant attitude that borders on rudeness. I will probably return but with that said.... I would probably go there more often if there was a friendlier attitude toward the customers

My family and I love this place. We love the crawfish and steamed white shrimp most. Unf.

Got the worst table in the whole place. But we didn't care. Why? Because the food was great!

Horrible. Absolutely terribad. Went there on the recommendation of a friend. Wait time to be seated was stated as 30 minutes; we actually got in in about 20. Had to wait outside on the ramp to the entrance, because they have no proper overflow area, but hey, they let me get a beer and take it outside! Open container laws? What's that? Got seated, no problem. Waitstaff were about as helpful as a busy restaurant can be. took our orders pretty quickly, so I thought, mistakenly, we'd be eating some good old fashioned fresh seafood SOON. I was mistaken. After waiting for an hour and a half, I told the waitress to just have the kitchen pack it in to go boxes, because we had to be someplace else in 15 minutes. Paid my $72.00 and went about our business. Food was pretty much NOT fresh-- it was the bog-standard breaded and fried to death stuff you can get in the frozen food aisle. Is it a shrimp, or an oyster, or a fried okra? Who knows? Every bite a SURPRISE! They also forgot the sides I ordered, even though I paid extra for a backed potato (they obv. only included two pieces of fried okra buy accident). My wife had crab cakes, my son had the grilled shrimp tacos, my daughter had the kid's popcorn shrimp. No one was impressed. Will not eat there again. Try Original Oyster House just down the road toward Daphne -- the wait time may be longer, but the service is friendlier, the kitchen staff seems to be able to function, and the food is better.

Overall it was a decent ambiance and acceptable food. Though, if you are planning on going out on the causeway you might as well go somewhere a bit more worthwhile. I couldn't say the food was good and for what you paid there are way better options in Mobile. I took a good friend who was visiting from out of town and we wanted to try some oysters and figured they could split an order or something. We were told that the owner refuses to do this because of x or y or whatever. Honestly I wasn't all that impressed and they could have at least said it nicer. I got the impression that what others have said about the owner (not being nice) is true. I won't be back.

Past this place coming home from across the bay. Saw crawfish on the sign and had to rush in. I thought to myself, "Finally, a place that serves crawfish in a restaurant in Mobile". It's across from Felix's so I'm sure they get traffic from people not willing to sit around for table over there. They gave us an option of sitting inside, which was kind of dark for a beauty sunny day on the Gulf Coast, or outside in the heat. The outdoor setting was the right choice. Girlfriend got a couple pounds of crawfish, I got a fish po-boy. The crawfish was kind of disappointing. I don't know if they didn't let it soak for long enough but the flavor wasn't there. And being sold for above market price, they better have been tasting better than DIP Seafood's crawfish! My po-boy wasn't that great either. No flavor, just oily. No sides, so it was just the sandwich. I'm not saying it the worst Seafood joint on the Causeway, but its not close to any of the ones on top either.

The best place in Mobile or Baldwin for crawfish!!!

Pretty much the entire waitstaff was awful. The hostess, the bar tender, the busers, everyone. If they weren't rude or irritable, they were incompetent or generally unprofessional. That being said, the food is so damn good. If you can handle trying people, definitely go.

Gumbo was amazing. Sauteed crawfish (which I have never tried) were something I will never forget. Red beans and rice were great too. Can not wait to go back.

I've had great experiences here. There's not much atmosphere, but you can order seafood by the pound for a large group and share. We always get crawfish in season. Then royal reds and regular shrimp. Always great. We've gotten the crabs a few times but they are bit more expensive. We just prefer crawfish and shrimp.

Had the oysters and they were awesome:). Great view, value, and service! The next time I'm in AL, I'll definitely be back;)))

Update 8/2/2013--- It appears that the restaurant has changed ownership. The new management have built a new deck and have expanded the dining room - everything is bigger now; unfortunately, it is not better. I have given them 3 tries in the past 8 months or so, and have only been satisfied with their oysters on half shell - those were the biggest and the briniest on the Causeway and the price was right. Besides that, food and service are ... meh.

Some of the best crawfish and the best Royal Reds I've ever had!

  • Greg F.

Best seafood on the Causeway!!! Steamed White Shrimp is awesome. Other excellent menu choices are crawfish (when in season) and the shrimp and oyster po-boy. Also, the service is great and the beer is cold and reasonably priced.
